How long does it take to build a concrete pool?

Concrete swimming pool by Cronulla Pools

If you’re anything like me, once you get an idea in your head you want it yesterday.

It’s like – you’ve spent all this time stewing on this huge decision so when you finally get to the point where you’re certain it’s what you want, there’s no way you want to sit back and have to wait.

Especially when it’s a decision to get a pool.

Getting a pool is massive. You’ve had to work hard to present hundreds of arguments to your partner to get them over the line. You’ve had to go without the latest PE Nation tights for a few seasons to keep on saving those hard-earned pennies. Geez you’ve even said no to a few (too many) nights out with the ladies to make every little bit count. But finally you got there – welcome to the business end – get ready to engage a bunch of really awesome pool builders (us) who’ve literally been put on this planet to make all of your pool dreams come true.

So, what happens now?

Okay.

There’s actually a whole bunch of stages involved in building a pool and the time it takes to move through each stage can vary from project to project. But. I really want to help you wrap your head around the process, as well as the time involved – it’s better for everyone that you go into this project with your eyes wide open, so get your pen and paper ready to write yourself a list of questions because we love nothing more than a keen bean client and we’re ready for you.

Here’s a guide to how long it’ll take to build your concrete pool.

Stage 1: Quote

How long does this part take? About 1 week

This takes about a week to get sorted. Basically we get to know you and everything you want. You’ll call or we’ll call, we’ll have a really cool chat about what you’re after and why. We’ll get the low down on how many kids you have, what your block is like, and if there’s any tricky things we need to consider. We’ll get acquainted. We love this part – like, we really love it. The end result of this stage is the quote you’ll receive from us – a tidy bit of paperwork that documents the details we’ve discussed to get your pool out of your head and into your backyard.

Stage 2: Design

How long does this part take? About 4 weeks

During the design stage you’ll be working with our landscape architect to get your pool designed and compliant. We’ll work closely with you to help you plan the perfect pool for your backyard. We’ll peruse your inspo images and understand the picture you’ve painted in your head as to how you want your backyard to look when finished. This process is often as quick as you make it. We’ll get your brief and design a first draft and then it’s up to you to make your comments and come back to us. Our landscape architect will work with you to get the most out of your space and make sure your new backyard is everything you know it can be – and more

Stage 3: Approval

How long does this part take? Anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months

During this stage you will be signing the contract, paying the deposit, and sourcing approvals. When it comes to all the serious stuff, don’t worry – we’ve got your back. Our contracts are easy-to-understand, and we make sure we’re available to you whenever you need to answer any questions. At Cronulla Pools, we design pools that qualify for Complying Development Certificates (CDC), and this only takes a few weeks. In cases where a CDC can’t be obtained, we’ll lodge a Development Application (DA) with the council, and this can take quite a bit longer unfortunately – sometimes up to 7 months.

Stage 4: Build

How long does this part take? Anywhere from 2 to 4 months

Once we’re all approved, we are ready to build – here we go, guys! We’re all for efficiency, getting things done on time and within budget, and we do all we can to build your pool build is seamless. That said, there’s plenty of uncertainties with any construction job and there can be the odd spanner in the works. We know how to deal with any challenge like total pros, so you can be confident you’re in the best hands ever. Just so you’re clear, the construction stage involves around 10 distinct stages: excavation, formwork and steel fixing, plumbing, concrete pouring, curing, pool equipment installation, fencing, tiling and interiors, a clean, fill and balance, and handover. This whole process can take anywhere from between 10 – 15 weeks.

Stage 5: Handover (4 weeks)

During handover, we teach you how to use your brand new pool. We also offer weekly services and pool handover lessons during the first month. We wanna get you feeling super-confident about your pool, and want to make sure you can get every little question you have about its care and operation answered. This is the start of your new pool life, and we want to make sure it’s a dream run from the start!

All right, that’s the gist of it for now. Got any questions about the pool build process? All you’ve got to do is get in touch! We can’t wait to hold your hand every step of the way until you’re staring at a sparkling pool placed perfectly in your gorgeous backyard.
